Copy an activity

You can copy an existing activity, to create a new one that has the same property values, requirements, sequencing relationships, module association, and student set allocations. Copying an activity removes the need to enter the same information for several different activities.

About this task: Student set allocation is copied, so students allocated to the existing activity also attend the new one. To create an additional occurrence of an activity that a student must attend only one occurrence of, for example an extra seminar to accommodate extra demand for a module, create an activity from a template.

Your ability to copy an activity depends on your permissions.

To copy an activity, follow these steps:

  1. Find the activity that you want to copy. For example, you might list the activities that are allocated to or have a preset requirement for a specific location, then pick an activity:
    1. In the list at the top of the Views pane, select an item type (see 1, above).
    2. Optional: To help you find the item that you are looking for, you can add columns to the table; some columns might contain data that help you identify the item that you are looking for. You can search, filter, and group items in the table, and you can sort the items.
    3. Select items in the table (2). You can select multiple items. The activities that are associated with the items are loaded into the table in the Activities pane.
  2. In the table in the Activities pane, select the activity that you want to copy (3). You can select multiple activities.
  3. Optional: To review or modify the options that control the copy function, follow these steps:
    1. In the Edit menu, point at Copy Activities, then click Configure Copy Activities (4). Note: If you click Copy Activities, instead of point at it, Enterprise Timetabler copies the selected activities.
    2. In the Configure Copy Activities window, modify the options if necessary.
    3. Click Save.

Tip: To copy activities after you modify options, click Create. The Configure Copy Activities window closes and Enterprise Timetabler copies the activities.

  4. In the Edit menu, click Copy Activities (5). Enterprise Timetabler copies the activities. The new activities have new unique host keys; their other property values are copied. The teaching week pattern of the new activities matches that of the copied activity.

Note: The new activities might not appear in the table in the Activities pane. For example, you might select a location in the Views pane then copy an activity that has a flexible requirement, such as '1 lecture room in the Central Campus'. In this scenario, the new activity will not be listed because it satisfies neither of the following criteria:

    1. It does not have a preset requirement for the location that you selected in the Views pane.
    2. It is not allocated the location that you selected in the Views pane, because the activity is unscheduled.

What to do next: If necessary, modify the property values, requirements, sequencing relationships, and student set allocations of the new activities.

The new activities are not scheduled, so to add them to the timetable you must schedule them.
