Apply preset requirements that cause scheduling problems

If you modify the preset requirements of a scheduled activity, Enterprise Timetabler checks whether constraints will be broken if the required resources are allocated. If scheduling problems would occur, then in the Confirm/Apply Changes window, you can choose whether the allocation proceeds. You might be willing to tolerate some problems. For example, if a required staff member can run two practical activities simultaneously, allow a double-booking of them.

About this task: Your ability to make changes that break constraints is controlled by:

  • The permissions that are assigned to you.
  • The current settings in the Constraints window.
    • If a constraint is set to Usually in the Constraints window, then you can break it when Enterprise Timetabler is in constraint breaking mode, or when you apply preset requirements (see Step 3 below).
    • If a constraint is set to Always in the Constraints window, you cannot make changes that break that constraint.

If the Confirm/Apply Changes window opens, follow these steps. If you are simultaneously modifying the requirements of multiple activities, the window lists multiple activities.

  1. In the No problems for area, review the list of activities. Applying your change to these activities will not cause scheduling problems.
  2. To apply the change to these activities, select the check box in the No problems for area.
  3. In the Permitted problems for area, review the list of activities. Applying your change to these activities will break constraints that are set to Usually in the Constraints window, and cause scheduling problems.
  4. To apply the change to these activities, select the check box in the Permitted problems for area.
  5. In the Non-permitted problems for area, review the list of activities. You cannot apply your change to these activities, because doing so would break constraints that you are not permitted to break.
  6. If you selected the Apply check box in the No problems for area or the Permitted problems for area, click Apply to modify the affected activities' preset requirements. If scheduling problems are generated, Enterprise Timetabler displays a pop up message.

What to do next: Review a list of all current scheduling problems, or list the problems that a specific activity has . If a problem will be tolerated, waive the problem.
