Schedule an activity
To add an activity to the timetable, you must schedule it.can automatically schedule activities. Or, you can manually schedule an activity.
When you automatically schedule an activity, finds a suitable day and start time for it, during the weeks that form the activity's teaching week pattern. You can use automatic scheduling functions to schedule a single activity, or multiple activities in one operation. For example, all the activities that comprise a module.
During automatic scheduling of multiple activities, the most heavily constrained activities are scheduled first, because they are the most difficult activities to find a day and time for. For example, if an activity requires a highly specialised room (for example, a laboratory that contains several advanced facilities), the supply of suitable rooms is likely to be limited.
When you manually schedule an activity, identifies suitable days and start times, which you choose from.
Soft constraints can influence which day and time is chosen, when there are multiple valid candidates. For example, one of the suitable day and time pairs might result in less travelling for students and staff.calculates a score for each valid start time; the score takes soft constraints into account. During automatic scheduling, uses the scores to select a start time; during manual scheduling, green bars that indicate the score of each start time help you choose.
You can automatically schedule activities in the following ways:
Standard schedulingor Backtrack scheduling
- You can use the
Defer resourceoption to skip the allocation of specific types of item. For example, if you defer the allocation of locations, the activities are scheduled, but they are not allocated locations; the constraints of suitable locations do not influence scheduling.
- You can use the
Schedule Special. You can use Schedule Special to allocate specific types of item to scheduled activities. Schedule Special does not affect the current day and time of the activities, or their existing allocation of other types of item. For example, if you use the 'Defer resource' option to skip location allocation, you can later use Schedule Special to allocate locations.
You can manually schedule activities in the following ways:
Select an existing activity in the Activities pane, then choose a valid day and start time.
Create and schedule an activity in one action.
Note: Your ability to schedule activities is controlled by the permissions that are assigned to you.
